🧂 About Salty Cinema
A movie review site that measures the one thing other sites ignore: how mad a film made you.
Every movie site tells you whether a film is good. Salty Cinema tells you whether it’s going to ruin your evening. We rate movies on two scales — and the saltier one is the whole point. The two numbers don’t always move together, and when they both run high at once, that quality-salt gap is worth understanding.
Salt Shakers
The signature rating. How mad, frustrated, or downright salty a movie left you, rated out of 10. A cheap death, a nonsense ending, a wasted three hours — the more it stings, the more shakers it earns. Ten shakers means maximum salt. Curious why some endings sting more than others? Read our breakdown of what makes an ending salty, or see which genres run saltiest.
Stars
The classic measure: how good the movie actually was, rated out of 10. Craft, story, performances. A film can be brilliant andsalty — that’s the most interesting kind. Not sure which one to weigh more for tonight? See how to pick a movie by mood.

FAQ
What does the salt shaker rating mean?
The Salt-O-Meter measures how mad, frustrated, or salty a movie left you, from 0 to 10 shakers. A cheap death, a nonsense ending, or a wasted three hours pushes the score up — 10 shakers means maximum salt.
How is saltiness different from the star rating?
Stars measure how good a movie actually was — craft, story, performances — out of 10. Saltiness measures your emotional reaction. A film can score high on both: brilliant and salty at the same time.
What's the difference between an official verdict and a community review?
Every movie gets one official Salty Cinema verdict. Anyone can sign in and add their own community review alongside it, rating both quality and saltiness.
